Here’s another million dollar question, with confusion around and no clear government help or figures. Energy is measured in kW/h, but sold in all sort of units, kg of coal, litres of oil, litres or kg of LPG. Below is a simple conversion table. With this you can see how much energy you are using and calculate the cost if you know how much a unit, whether tonnes of coal or litres of oil you use.

Looking at the information on the running cost comparison page the example shows a Thornhill Range Cooker uses about 6,070kW a year of fuel, and we have assumed the a Total Control Aga range cooker would be required to give the same amount of heating.
6,070kW using a Thornhill Range oil 3-oven cooker would produce 1.76 tonnes a year, but an Aga range cooker would produce 5.78 tonnes.
Thornhill Range pellet or log range cookers make just 139kg CO2, but an electric 13amp 3-oven Aga range cooker would generate 4.88 tonnes.
An Aga range cooker Total Control electric range cooker assuming similar room heating requirements would generate 2,733 tonnes of CO2 per annum.
Conclusion? You’re better off with an oil, gas, pellet or wood fired Thornhill Range cooker both financially/annum and reducing your CO2 footprint.
