Oil fired cookers: size 1,000mm wide, 900mm high by 750mm deep.
At the Eco Range Cooker Co. we make 3 models of oil fired cookers all 3 have Total Control for low fuel usage.
Balanced Flue Condensing 21Kw boiler @ 93% efficient with 2 ovens. This has to be on an outside wall and the flue pipe and air intake goes straight out the back up to 600mm deep wall.
Cooker Only Balanced Flue 3 oven. This has to be on an outside wall. The flue pipe and air intake goes straight out of the back up to a 600mm deep wall.
Conventional Flue, 3 oven cooker only (Dry), Standard 125mm lined chimney or twin wall chimney required to roof height.
In all 3 models the cooker side is the same, 2 or 3 large ovens, each about 20% bigger than an AGA oven, the top right hand oven is thermostatically controlled. The hot plate temperature is relative to the oven temperature.
All three models have Total Control oven the cooker temperature and timing, reducing cooking running costs to about £ 150.00 per annum*
The hot plate will heat up to boiling in 4-5 minutes, whilst the oven takes 20 minutes to get to 180C from cold. A timer can be used with the ovens, and the cooker used as an efficient room heater by leaving the cooker thermostat on, say, 100 deg's. and timing it to come on with the central heating. In colder weather the oven temperature is set higher. A radiator in most kitchens is not then required. The cooker will also be ready to use. However, in the summer and on warm days, the cooker can just be turned on when required, saving a lot of expensive fuel. Approximate running costs as a cooker £1-200 per annum*.
* based on: 2 kW warm up, 3kW/hour cooking, 2 hours cooking per day, so 8kW/day. oil @ 54p/litre, 10.3 kW/litre = 5.2p/kW. Total £ 0.42p/day, for 350 day £ 147.00/annum.
If we used electricity to heat the ovens, with a Total Control, there is no logical reason why it would use any less energy. But as electricity is mostly made in the UK from Coal and Gas it is a lot more expensive @ 12p /kW. So an electric iron cooker will cost 12p x8kW x 350 days to run. A total cost of £ 336.00 per annum, and considerably more if a lot of cooking is done and the cooker used as a room heater.
If used as a room heater instead of a central heating radiator at the rate of 3kW/hour. If used for 3 hours in the morning, 2 at lunchtime and from 3-10 in the evening, 12 hours per day for say 210 day a year, the electric cooker would cost a staggering £ 907.00 a year, but the oil fired heater £393.12, a lot of the time a warm cooker in the kitchen and a wood stove in the sitting room is sufficient to heat the whole house.
